Once an empty, ramshackle office building, 1920 Chestnut has been reborn as a condo, with offices and a restaurant on the lower floors. A beautiful, classic building, it was built before the turn of the 21st century as an extension for the Aldine Hotel. The first and second floors were refaced during the ’30s when those levels were converted into offices and a showroom. The building’s history can be seen on its (mainly) Beaux Arts facade, which the developers have thankfully kept intact. Now experiencing what is actually its third rebirth, 1920 Chestnut is now home to 30 spacious loft-style condo units, all with spectacular views of the city. One of the building’s tenants, Le Castagne Ristorante which specializes in northern Italian cuisine, is one of the city’s more popular fine-dining establishments. Midway between the business district and Rittenhouse Square, residents here can go practically anywhere on foot.
